sydney flower school florist workshop

Get ready for some scissor-slingin’ wine-drinkin’ ol’ fashion FUN! The ‘Give A Shit’ Workshop is back, bigger and bolder than ever!

In 2018 we hosted our first ever ‘Give A Shit’ Workshop – it was so much fun, that we’ve decided to run it again!! We’ll be heading to the new, sexy-ass warehouse space, The Carpenter, and the crazy talented, multi award winning international photographer, Gemma Clarke, will be coming along for the ride to take photos of all your gorgeous faces (and your gorgeous work!).

The ‘Give A Shit’ Workshop is a great opportunity for fun, fabulous people with a desire to learn a new skill to come together for a day of creativity, while also raising much needed funds for Mental Health services in our country.

We are very excited to announce our first workshop for 2019 in the ‘Give A Shit’ series..

“Give A Shit” Workshop Series

Bold + Beautiful Floral Event Design

Sunday 4th August 2019

Inner West, Sydney

“I can not recommend the Give A Shit workshops enough! I had such a ball navigating my way though 2  arrangements with a drink in my hand, surrounded by awesome, funny and fabulous women.
Make some sick floral art, have a drink (or 4), meet some rad people and do it all while you support a wicked charity. Also, Kimbo is a cheese board kween, so if that doesn’t get you interested, I don’t know what will.”

What will I learn?

This fun and extensive course will cover various design elements to help you create the perfect event (all taught with a wine in hand, duh)

  • Hand-tied bouquets. Together we’ll create a lush hand-tied bouquet, perfect as wedding inspiration for beautiful brides, or simply pop your bouquet into a vase for the perfect statement piece.
  • Table styling 101. What really makes a perfect tablescape? We’ll discuss in detail all the elements you need to design the perfect event table, whether that be a wedding, birthday or simple at home dinner party. As a group, we will use everything we’ve learnt to create the perfect tablescape + grazing table for our group lunch.
  • Designing the perfect statement piece; large scale installation demo. The one thing I always recommend to all my clients is to ‘pick your focal point’. Together, we’ll discuss the importance of picking one, major styling element to create a ‘wow’ factor for your event. We’ll use soft furnishing, lighting, large furniture and flowers to create a focal point in our event styling. Also perfect for those looking to take their professional ‘photoshoots’ to the next level.

What’s Included?

Beautiful, bold palette of seasonal flowers, lush foliage and interesting textures. Designs are yours to take home.

Floral snips, ribbons, vessels & all other materials needed

Professional images for use in your own portfolio. We’ll be joined by the incredible, award winning Gemma Clarke who will be documenting the day and taking personalised photos of each students work.

A group design debrief and business Q&A (over wine. duh), including a take home information pack including Kimberley’s personal supplier lists and business process.

Anyone wanting to get creative, regardless of skill level. This course is perfect for those brand new to styling and floristry, and also for those looking to develop their floristry skills or add some basic styling techniques to their repertoire.

About Kimberley

Kimberley is the creative brain behind The Marmalade Sky. She’s a florist, a stylist, a dreamer and lover of all things beautiful. After 10 years in corporate events, Kimberley took the plunge into full time study (a certificate 3 in floristry) and hasn’t looked back. Since then, both Kimberley and her wedding design company ‘The Marmalade Sky’ have blossomed. Specialising in unique, badass weddings, The Marmalade Sky has evolved from it’s humble beginnings as a bespoke flower studio – although it still specialises in lush AF flowers!

Kimberley has traveled all over the world for her art – most recently, she worked along side the legendary Steven Moore of Sinclair and Moore (rated one of the worlds top wedding stylists by Martha Stewart + Vogue Weddings) in Seattle, USA.

Kimberley is also the proud ambassador and face of the Mental Skillness campaign, championing mentally healthy workplaces. Launched by the NSW Mental Health Services in 2018, Kimberley hopes to continue this worthy work, by breaking down mental health stigma in the floristry world through these workshops, and raising much needed funds for mental health support organisations.

Speaking at the launch of the Skillness Campaign, Kimberley said “We spend a huge amount of time working so it’s crucial that our work space is safe and healthy. People should be able to feel accepted in their workplace. Mental illness is not a burden. When given the chance, we will thrive.”

Spaces are limited!
